I would like to start a movie club. We would select a Education Topic and review one or more movies on a quarterly basis that might be used in helping all stakeholders in Education understand the topic. Let me know if you are interested.
A starting topic would be School Safety. The movie Stand and Deliver contains many school safety issuse and is based on a real situation. In an early scene, a teacher attempts to control a fight and ends up going to the hospital. How should teachers approach fights? What mistakes were made by the reel teacher? What type of training is available? What are your real life experiences? This is just one of the safety issues in the movie that could be identified and used for discussion and planning for staff development.
Our next topic could be Parent Conferences. What is you opinion of the first Parent/Teacher meeting in Pay It Forward? Think of the applications for a presentation to a PTA session or for new teachers.
